Health & Safety Assistant

Main Duties

  • Supporting the implementation and monitoring of health & safety policies, procedures and compliance standards across the business.
  • Assist with inspections, audits and safety checks to ensure compliance with company policies and legislation.
  • Helping to prepare and maintain risk assessments, COSHH assessments and method statements.
  • Ensuring health & safety documentation is up to date and correctly filed, including reviewing and updating employee training records.
  • Preparing and delivering health & safety literature, including memos, newsletters and toolbox talks.
  • Assisting with accident, incident and near miss reporting, investigations and the implementation of rectifying actions.
  • Arrange and provide training and support to staff on health and safety practices.
  • Purchasing health & safety consumables, First Aid supplies, signage and ensuring adequate supplies are maintained.
  • Updating health & safety notice boards and safety signage where required.
  • Collaborate with the management team to maintain the comprehensive safety plan.
  • Liaising with all departments to address health & safety concerns promptly and continuing to promote a positive health & safety culture across the business.
  • Maintain own knowledge of health and safety legislation, industry standards, and best practices

 

Skills and Experience required.

  • NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or working toward (desirable).
  • IOSH Managing Safely (required).
  • Train the Trainer or equivalent qualification (advantageous).
  • Experience within a manufacturing environment (desirable).
  • Demonstration of professional competence and development.
  • Good knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act, etc. 1974, and associated legislation and ACOPS
  • Be passionate about safety with the ability to communicate with all levels of the business.
  • Ability to positively influence others.
  • Demonstrate a desire for self-improvement and enthusiasm to learn new skills.
  • Flexible and able to adapt to changing work priorities.
  • Excellent computer and administration skills, including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
